[Lacquerware] Wajima Lacquerware
Hiroshi Nakakado
born in 1958 in Wajima, Ishikawa, Japan, is the fourth-generation top-coating master of the Wajima-nuri lacquerware tradition and a pioneering expert in “colored lacquer” (iro-urushi); after apprenticing under his father in 1980, he developed over 100 original lacquer hues — including pinks, blues, and gradient finishes — and established the workshop/brand known as 采色塗 なか門, through which he creates modern, art-inspired lacquerware that respects traditional Wajima techniques while offering fresh, contemporary designs.
