[Ceramics] Tenmoku
Daisuke Hashimoto
born in 1972 in Kyoto, Japan, was drawn early to ceramic arts as the son of a potter and eventually devoted himself full-time to his craft. Since 2007 he has specialized in producing iron-glazed Tenmoku ware — including tea bowls, sake cups and water vessels — characterized by deep glazes and subtle kiln effects, often described as shimmering like light on water or twilight skies. Through persistent experimentation with glaze, clay and firing conditions, he has built a reputation for harmonizing traditional Tenmoku techniques with a refined contemporary aesthetic, making him a respected and promising figure among Japan’s modern ceramic artists.
